How do multiple rail transfers work under the Enhanced Transfer Rules?

Commuters can make multiple rail transfers (by tapping out and tapping back in to the rail network) within a single journey without incurring any additional boarding charges. Transfers between two different rail stations have to be made within 15 minutes, and 45 minutes for transfers between bus and rail. Commuters can choose to adjust their current travel routes to take advantage of the new transfer rules, which will be taking effect at the end of 2018.

Bras Basah > Bencoolen
City Hall > Esplanade
Bencoolen > Dhoby Ghaut
Rochor > Jalan Besar
Downtown > Marina Bay

Why are the Enhanced Transfer Rules not applicable at Bukit Panjang, Newton and Tampines MRT stations?

The new transfer rules are for transfers between different stations, not within an interchange station. Therefore, these rules will not apply to Bukit Panjang, Newton and Tampines MRT stations as these are designated as interchange stations.

Commuters who change lines at these interchange stations by tapping out and tapping back in will not be considered as having made a transfer. They will be charged based on the shortest travel paths between their origin and destination stations, without incurring any additional boarding charges.
