What is the Deferred Fare Adjustment mechanism for?

The Deferred Fare Adjustment mechanism allows the PTC to take into consideration the prevailing social and economic conditions during the annual Fare Review Exercise, and defer the fare adjustment quantum, in part or in full, to the next fare review exercise to keep fares affordable. This flexibility has enabled the PTC to shield commuters from fare increases during periods such the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, large fare adjustments due to sudden spikes in energy prices in the 2022 Fare Review Exercise.
